Human oversight is not achieved by placing a person near an automated output. The person needs time, competence, context, usable evidence, authority and a safe alternative. A handoff records what the system observed, what it inferred, what remains uncertain, who owns the decision, how action is confirmed and how disagreement or failure travels back into governance.

The NIST AI RMF and Playbook address human oversight, human-AI teaming, context, monitoring and accountability as parts of a socio-technical system. They do not define a universal interface or agricultural safety function.

Farm handoffs range from low-consequence prioritization to advice that may influence chemicals, water, animals, machinery, labor or financial decisions. Review time, competence, alternatives and authority must match the consequence and operating context.
