A green backup indicator says that a job ran; it does not prove that the right records were copied, that credentials and software still exist, or that a farm workflow can be restored in time. Recovery assurance links business priorities, assets, identities, configuration, data lineage, protected copies, test evidence and operational acceptance. The unit of recovery is a usable farm service—not merely a file.

NIST CSF 2.0 treats data protection, resilience, recovery planning, verification and communication as connected cybersecurity outcomes. CISA's cross-sector goals emphasize protected backups and recovery testing as foundational practices.

Farm recovery scope may include field boundaries, prescriptions, guidance lines, machine and controller settings, livestock and environmental records, inventories, work orders, credentials, integration mappings and vendor-hosted exports. Each item needs an owner, authoritative location, dependency context, acceptable loss window and recovery priority.
