Cybersecurity Asset Inventory

A farm cannot govern connected technology it cannot identify, but a list of serial numbers is not enough. A useful cybersecurity asset inventory links each device, controller, display, gateway, workstation, mobile app, cloud service, account and data exchange to its physical role, responsible owner, operating importance, interfaces, dependencies, versions, support state and safe method of verification. NIST CSF 2.0 provides organization-wide cybersecurity outcomes rather than a prescribed implementation. NIST's IoT catalog treats device identification, configuration, interface access, update capability and cybersecurity-state awareness as distinct capabilities that must be tailored to context.

For a farm, that context includes physical location and mobility, machine or facility role, season and critical operating window, safety implications, local and remote interfaces, data flows, supporting services, account ownership, exact software and firmware evidence, maintenance authority and end-of-support status.
